When you register on the www.My2ndGeneration.com Social Coding / Code Generation site you are automatically added as a collaborator in the “Guest Database” repository. This repository has 5 different databases already contained within it so that you can immediately go to the “Templates” page (these are public templates) and execute templates within minutes of registering.
However, when it comes time to push your own database schema up to the My2ndGeneration Cloud you can simply download the “My2ndGeneration Metadata Client” for your operating system. The client is supported on Windows, Linux, and the Mac.
All it takes is simply choosing which database you want to connect to and then choose which Tables, Views, and Stored Procedures you’d like to push. It’s that easy.
My2ndGeneration Supports the following databases.
- Microsoft SQL
- Microsoft SQL Azure
- Oracle
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- SQLite
and we will be adding Sybase support before long.
Below are snapshots of the My2ndGeneration Client running in all three operating systems. In each sample below we are connecting to a SQLite database.
Windows
Linux
Mac
All that is required is that you choose which type of database you want to connect to, enter your connection string, determine which Tables, Views, and Stored Procedures you want to push up to the My2ndGeneration Cloud and click the “Push Data” button. For large databases it might take a minute or two, but don’t fret, it will complete fine. For smaller databases it might take only 5 to 10 seconds.
